This free event is made possible from a Youth and Rec Grant with help from FFA, Alpena Optomist Club, and many area businesses. On this day The Alpena Farmers’ Market takes on a carnival like atmosphere as it fills with families with children. The throng is entertained with live music and there are lots of free activities including petting zoo, veggie tasting, dunk tank, balloon animals, hay rides, face painting, games, cider and donuts/cookies, drawing for bikes donated by Wal Mart, pumpkin decorating, vegetable tasting, fire trucks, ambulance, and many other activities put on by area businesses and organizations.
The goal of this project is to reduce the use of single use plastic bags. Starting in 2022, The Alpena Farmers' Market is hoping to eliminate the use of single use plastic bags at the market. In order the help with the acceptance of this program we would like to provide our customers with reusable bags at a minimal or at no cost to the customer. We hope that this project would then spread to other farmers markets and businesses within the area. Thank you Alpena Alcona Area Credit union and Community Foundation Community Impact Grant!
This program sponsored by Greenstone Farm Credit Union encourages and educates kids about healthier food and healthier choices by participating in fun, interactive activities alongside market vendors and volunteers. Kids are also given the opportunity to sell their own produce and products for free on certain market days. By empowering kids we hope to future health outcomes of childhood obesity while developing a new generation of informed and healthier market shoppers and producers.
