Alpena Farmers' Market response to COVID-19 (updated 3/25/20)

Greeting Alpena Farmers Market Customers,

In these uncertain times the Alpena Farmers' Market is committed to keeping the community, vendors and our customers as safe as possible while providing access to high quality, locally produced, fresh products.

WE WILL REMAIN OPEN outside the Alpena Mall on Saturdays from 10am-12pm as an essential business that provides critical access to food required for our daily living. We are following local, state and federal guidelines as well as monitoring the  Center for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) closely to try and reduce risk of exposure to  the community and our vendors.

We have taken a number of proactive steps to reduce risk of exposure at our farmers' market and asking our vendors and market partners to follow best practices as recommended by the CDC to reduce exposure and spread of COVID 19. We are also making the following changes:

  • Vendors will now be located outside to provide a more open air, ventilated environment
  • Stalls will be set up in a way that customers can drive up to vendors to get their items
  • Hours will be limited from 10am-12pm on Saturdays
  • Vendors will be spaced out by at least 15 feet and we are asking customer and vendors to stand 10 feet from each other
  • Requiring new precautionary procedures for market staff which require wearing gloves and washing hands more frequently, especially with handling money and products
  • Increased frequency of disinfecting market surfaces/objects
  • Providing hand sanitizer for customers and the public
  • Food sampling will not be allowed
  • We have provided a list of winter vendors contact information on our web site below so that customers can preorder for pickup and some vendors may also deliver products to customers homes

In addition for the safety of our community we ask that everyone take personal precautions to prevent the spread of COVID 19:

  • If you or someone you have close contact with is sick please stay home
  • Those people that are at higher risk (elderly and people with other chronic health conditions) should stay out of public gathering areas which would include farmers markets. Have someone else come to the market to pickup your items
  • Wash hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, hand sanitizer with at 60% alcohol should be used
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough using your elbow or disposable tissue
  • wash your hands immediately after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Choose low contact ways of greeting friends and loved ones such waving from a distance

We understand this is a complex and constantly changing time for our community.  We are consulting, learning, and getting the best information from our key partners, advisors, and collaborators, including state leaders and organizations. Please stay safe.
